Posting for a friend.
He got a 454 not sure of year but around 1997 I would imagine. Problem is when engine is running it will start blowing oil out of the dipstick. Engine stillrunning smooth and good.
Any ideas what could cause this?
Thanks
JM

Sounds like the pcv(positive crankcase ventilation)system is plugged or blocked.Pull the pcv valve out of the valve cover and see if the valve clicks as you put the tip of your finger on the end as engine is running.

Also, with engine running, pull the pcv valve out of the line.It should create a MAJOR vacuum leak.

Normal crankcase pressures are pulled out through this system. ~brad

Crankcase pressure caused by a non functioning PCV valve. Excess blowby. Bad dipstick seal.

I am FAR from an expert on chevys, but it sounds like the crankcase vent filter is plugged and he has a lot of blowby.
