Hey guys, Just got back from a tractor pull at the county fair,havent been to one since Ive been an adult.I noticed when they are winding up to go there is grey smoke than suddenly as if a flick of a switch its black.What causes that? Thanks for humoring my desil ignorance, Brad

Diesel engines pulling at their max will often run black as they are not getting enough airflow. Sometime its and advantage and sometime not. Just depends on how much fuel to air ratio they have.

The grey smoke is when the water injection starts, then as stated, they reach max boost and it all goes black.
