Gents,
My 03 GMC 1500 truck has developed a strange brake problem. When brakes are applied and speed gets to 5mph or below there is considerable shuddering and vibration. This does not occure all the time and sometimes pumping the brake will stop it.When it does occure a lot of pedal pressure is required to stop. Any suggestions?? Thanx for listening to this OT post.

Simple enuff, pull the ABS fuse if the problem goes way its is most likely a ABS problem. I did have one awhile back that once i unplugged the fuse the rear brakes would lock up apond lite application of the brake pedal, it had a set of rear shoes that were 2 aggressive, problem was I had installed the shoes a few years back, Good old NAPA junk. At the time they were the only store in town that had'em. I not wait if a Bendix set is not in stock. What this means is if you pull the fuse and still have a brake problem it most likely is not a fraught of the ABS. If the problem goes away after you pull the fuse take it to a qualified shop for repair or learn to stand on the brake pedal rite hard.

Was that truck part of the recall for ABS wheel sensors that could corrode, and cause undesired operation of the ABS system?

Yes Bob,the front speed sensors get a little rust build-up between the sensor mounting pad and the bearing/hub assy. The air gap is too much, and the wheel reads 0 mph for a moment.

Earl; check with your dealer and have the VIN # available.I'm pretty sure they will take care of it. ~brad
