A while back, I was browsing around at a tractor junkyard, and I saw half a dozen tractors there (As, Bs, Cs, Hs) that were in VERY good condition. They looked restored. What do you think they were there for. They were'nt being stored there, there were people canablising one poor machine, and they all were missing parts (starters, lights&wires, wheels, sheet metal, etc) but you could tell the machines werent there for long. What do you think?

Don't get me wrong, I hate to see nice tractors parted out, but would you rather get parts off of a worn out tractor or a nice one?

Lanse,
I would bet the junkyard bought them at the right price either private or at auction. Part them out, make some money. A fellow around here does that.

Yeah, but if they were as good as they looked, surely they would have sold for more then their value of parts.

There is very little profit to be made parting out worn out tractors. The parts highest in demand will not be fit for sale. A good tractor can be sold for parts at several times what it might be worth as a complete tractor.

Lanse,
A few years ago I bought a Farmall M,Farmall A, and a Case SC. All looked OK none ran. The guy I got them from just wanted them out of the drive shed. Took them home, sold the A for what I paid for all 3, rest was profit.
