when i take off my radiator cap, the dex-cool antifreeze in the radiator appears to have oil streaks, or something similar in it. it almost looks milky, like a light brownish color. does this sound serious? thanks.

I would have someone check out your radiator. It has two coolers in it. An oil cooler and a trans cooler. It could be the start of a bigger leak. A good radiator shop can pressure check both coolers. and have them replaced @ the same time,if need be.Been there didnt do that and ended up losing the engine. the guys here arent joshing you.

its a '99 with 58,000 miles...thanks for your responses, i was kind of concerned, but i dont seem to be losing any fluids and the motor runs about 190 degrees all the time...i should probably just flush it out and get some new in 'er..

My S-10 with the 4.3 is the same way. I was told Dex-Cool was mixed with the reg. antifreeze and it messed up the coolant. All my other fluids are fine, and it cools the truck just fine, and I was told it won't hurt anything. I know I should change it, but it's been about 40k miles and no problems. If you've got the time and/or money I would change it, but I seem to come up short on one or both of those all the time.

Are you losing tranny fluid? I'd be for checking that cooler.

That's exactly what I was thinking while I opened your post Allan, seen that in the shop several times, bad rad system can mix coolant and trans fluid..Customers found it hard to believe, I don't

Don't forget, some of those vehicles have an engine oil cooler, in the opposite radiator tank from the tranny cooler.

I had a chevy S-10 pickup that had that anti-freeze in it. I swear, that stuff got chocolate milky, and it stained the little plastic reservior. Looks like diarrea in the plastic tank. Ran with it for 30,000 more miles, no problems, finally changed it.

Dex-cool must be mixed at the proper rate with water. It also must be replaced sooner than the 100,000 miles that G.M. suggests. If it is not, you get chocolate pudding. If you really have oil in the cooling system,it could mean that you have a blown head gasket, and I would consider that serious.

It is really hard for oil to get into the coolant, the coolant is under alot more pressure so usually if it is the headgasket the coolant will be in the oil.

What year blazer.A lot of them with "dex clog" will look like this. It is possible that the lower intake gaskets are leaking. I would also suggest to install green coolant.
I would replace lower intake gaskets.
