Thanks for your help. Well, The gasket is fine, to what I can see, So, Im going to pull the head (again) and seeing if theres enought bolt to remove with pliers or something and if so I'll have to get a new bolt tomorrow. (its only 5miles to town with a bike...)

Now, as for the oil leak. Someone said it was a seal. Where do I remove to motor to see this seal. Can I make a new seal? Its a briggs 7hp engine made in 1977 (replacement engine)

Thanks for your help!!

sometimes you can jlay a nut over the stub o fthe broken bolt and weld it on.. be carefull to cover the deck o fthe block to prevent weld spatter ruining your gasket surface.

the heat from the weld somethimes helps the bolt break loose.

Don't forget other techniques like pb blaster oil, and a medium whack of the head o fthe broke stud with a hammer to help swage the male threads a little..

On that engine even if the bolt is broke off even with the block is shouldn't be all that hard to remove. BTDT more then once. Drill a small hole in the bolt and use an E-Z out being careful not to brake the cheap hardware store ones. Where on the engine is the oil leak?? Common on those old B-S engines to leak at what would be called the oil pan gasket or have the oil breather clogged up and that will cause them to sort of leak out the breather tube going into the carb. Yep I have been playing with those engines since I was 10 years old and have done so many thing to them it isn't funny

yep, its down around the bottom of the engine. How do I access it? Do I have to remove the whole thing or can I leave the oil pan on the mower? I really am not looking foward having to line up all them little bolts again...

Have to pull the engine and also the pulley on the crank shaft. If you do all that replace the seal on the crank shaft or your likely to have problems with it also BTDT and found out the hard way about the seal
