Even though weather forcasting is far from perfect having a weatherman show me what weather pattern is 3-4 states west of me is more accurate than my gut feeling. Chance of precipitation is only part of it; cloud cover, temperature, wind speed and direction, and humidity all play into hay drying. That being said I look at upto 4 different independent forcasts in the following order: weather.com, NWS, accuweather, and intellicast and if 2or 3 agree and I like what they say I"ll cut hay. Around here tv weather forcasts are geared toward beach travellers and are useless. Here on the east coast I wouldn"t cut with that forcast, partly cloudy and east wind doesn"t dry hay here. You"re in a different part of the country so maybe an east wind is a drying wind. I finished third cut alfalfa 2 weeks ago and it dried in 2 days when it normally takes 4. Light hay, no soil moisture, very little plant moisture, and decent drying conditions. Beautiful hay, just not enough of it.

You're in the upper midwest- forecasts mean nothing. Trust your gut. You could have made 2 rounds in the time it took to compile those forecasts :<)

I never watch the weather during hay seasons. If I listened to the weather man here I would never get half my hay up. I waited for 6 days once before watering my tobacco as the weather man was giving a 80 to 90% chance of rain every day. I fianally set the outfit and started watering. After 30 minutes the heavens opened up and rained 2 inches. It is just hard to out guess mother nature. Looks like you have a good forecast to me. There is always a chance of isolated thunder showers this time of year, here in Ky.

You'll have to trust your gut instinct, but no one was ever able to bale up hay unless it was first cut down.

Well, if the weather guesser says that there is a 60 percent chance of rain and he is wrong 90 percent of the time what is the actual chance of rain????? your guess is probably as good as his if you pull up your local satellite weather charts and other weather forecasts and go from there.

Hay;; Scott, I think you are quite a ways south, If I cut and it rains up here you still will be dry. Bad as we think things are something is always worse. That bridge in MPLS was terrible. A miracle more were not hurt or killed. Bob
