Even more pictures. This shed was 110 years old. It was the first building my great grandfather built on the farm. On one side was a corncrib and stairs leading to a granary above. The old grainbins can be seen in some of the pictures. We have used the building as a produce stand for many years. The siding was pretty bad but the worst problem was the foundation on the side away from the road. The bottom beam had rotted in areas and the stone that served as the foundation were leaning. Rather than wait for it to fall we debated building new or restoring. Restoring won out and an Amish crew was hired to fix it. 9 days later we were open for business. The building is 20' X 30'

Thanks for any comments and do you want to buy any old barn siding. Another question Sould I put anything on the new hemlock siding? I want it to age and darken and don't want to stain it.

Phil

Where are you at exactly? That road looks like one I travel once in a while down near Osterburg (SP) Nice job on the shed

I would let it age for a while... and then when it gets to that color you want, put some of that thompsons deck sealer on it to prevent rot and splits

The Hemlock was a great choice. It makes some of the very best boxing. We don't do anything to Hemlock here except let it age gracefully. It will outlast you. Looks great.

Beautiful building, I just hope the local municipality doesn't come thru and require it to be moved out of their right of way someday.....

It looks like its about 2 feet from the road? Or is that just an optical illusion?

Nope, it is right on the road. It was there first. It is a state road with a 33' right of way but if they want it moved they can pay for it. Actually considered moving it before restoration but decided not to. It should be easy to move for profesionals since the entire structure is really built on 2 10" X 10" beams. No one really wories much about thios road and I own most of the property that is developable.
