I think that price is towards the upper end for a '99 but it sounds like it's a very nice truck so I'd say it isn't out of line. I've got a '99 24v 2500 and as the others have said a fuel pressure gauge is critical, I'm also running a FASS aftermarket lift pump on mine and run just over 20 psi of fuel pressure all the time. Mine has 3:55 gears and an automatic so it was a little on the doggy side but yesterday I put an Edge Comp on it and even only on level 2 (of five) the 60hp increase made a big improvement power.

Too much money for an '99. An '02 it would be a fair price.I passed on an '02 for $15,500, 87K miles,Cummins,Quad Cab w/all power and "Clean",Dually with Reese Hitch Plates and 2" Reciever Hitch,Brake Control and Outlets,Very good Goodrich Radials.I found a '01 ford Comparebly equipped and in my "Color" instead. I might add they both are Stick Shift,5&6. I think the Dodge is still available if interested.

Someone asked me how long I thought my 24 valve Cummins would last.Answer, about 3 trucks. The 24 valve has a lot wider rpm range making it easier to drive. The stock 12 valve has plenty power but only will wind up to about 2400rpm. You should put a fuel pressure warning light on the 24v so when the transfer pump croaks you won't burn up the injector pump.It also warns you when you need to change the fuel filter. You can also plug in an Edge Box or some other brand to mess with the computor and get lots more power and with that you get better fuel mileage except if your foot is too heavy. One more tip add 5-20% soydiesel to make up for the lubrication you loose with the ultra low sulpher fuel. Know why they didn't jack the price up on the new fuel?you don't get the mileage you used to so they got you that way.

the 24v is alot more drivable, the head flows much better, and with the vp44 pump that can adjust pump timing and fueling on the fly, it is more efficient and flexible. BUT (like a big oprah but!) the p7100 pump on the 12v is far more reliable, (positive lube & cooling independant of fuel flow) and has roughly twice the capacity, as well as the added benefit of a total lack of electronic computer controled wizardry!

Well, the 24 valve is alot more motor than the 12. I've hauled horses with both. Gas mileage is diminished due to increased fuel consumption. We had a '98 that was good. The '01 ate injector pumps every 30,000. Try kelleybluebook.com for prices/value. There are some good dodge owner sights out there that can give you a lot of info on any year/ make/ model...
