Well, I just got a moped today. Bought it off of ebay, but it's only 1 year old and only 280 miles on it- couldn't go wrong.

It's a 2006 Honda metropolitan. Picked it up for $1500, when new they go for about $2200. Main;y got it for fun (you just can't get that sh!t grin off your face!!) and to ride that to work and back. He said it got 85 MPG. Seems low, but it ain't broke in yet!!

My brother once said "You see a guy in his 40s on a moped, its got DUI wrote all over him" Now it means he's payin less in gas than me!

'Moped' license plate covers the scooters under 50cc engines, speed restriction in Wi is 30 mph. Some scooters have a electronic control box governor that restricts the top speed for sales in the US market, if the control box is unplugged and a jumper wire inserted in wire loom the engine can run faster and scooter reverts to about 45 mph top speed as scooter was designed for in other markets. Owners decision to tell state DOT that he now has a 'motorcycle' requiring a drivers license endorsed for motorcycle instead of 'Moped' that a regular drivers license is valid for, but remember that Wi DOT has a minor(!) computer system problem so you probably shouldn't bother them :). Some Honda Ruckus trail styled scooters don't have restriction but still get the 'moped' plates, wire loom diagrams similar to restricted scooters except for lack of restrictors. Other restriction methods involve a washer in the exhaust pipe, washer has been known to break off from spot weld in pipe when people clean pipe, some just fall off during cleaning(a tap with punch seems to part of cleaning drill for some people;). Does the owners manual have any indications about restriction devices on your model? Not that I am suggesting you remove any restrictions, but you should check all equipment on new vehicle just so you're familiar with what the pieces do and what happens if a small piece may break or get lost during normal maintenance. I have a Yamaha CA50 I got running for a lady in church, they have a restrictor plate in belt drive transmission pulley area- maybe I'll examine it later, hope I don't drop the restrictor plate and lose it, ladies kids might borrow mamas scooter to get around and exceed moped allowable speed, mama might have to get tested for motorcycle drivers license endorsement. That's a scooter, not a moped. And the base price is $1849 according in the Honda website.

Well, when they get a moped plate, it's a moped. Same difference either way in my book.

As far as the price, That's MSRP- not what the dealer actually gets for them. They're selling pretty good here, I'm sure I could turn around and sell it for $1600+ if I wanted to.

Is that a 540 or 1000 rpm pto on that? I don't think you'll get very good traction either. Wonder if they make Firestone field and road tires in that size. Sorry Don, just had to do it. ;^) BTW, isn't that actually a scooter and not a moped?

How long of a ride do you have to work? Hope its not too long... The funniest thing I see in my area is the two big fat people on one of those things. Looks like they each only have one cheek on the seat and the poor motor sounds like its running wide open. It makes me laugh every time I see them coming.

It's only a 5 mile ride so it's not bad at all. Actually, since I got done with school a tank of gas in my car was lasting me 2-3 weeks already...;-) There's a matching red one that the guy still has on ebay- that one ends today if ya want it..

Speaking of..... What do mopeds and fat chicks have in common?

They're fun to ride until you friends see you on them!!

Myself,I couldn't do the moped thing. At least not on public roads.
