it started as a club house for the kids in the woods. then the ladies got involved. went from a simple shed, now its getting a 10x 14 screened in deck with a roof over it. then the wimmens decided that now i should look at adding another deck just to barbecue on. sheesh. heres some pics, setting the poles, framing up the cabin, then framing up the deck. so much for the secret mens club hideaway where a fella can have a brewski and a cheap cigar!!!

Built one back in 1987 in our 7ac bush as a retreat for our family. It's 10'X16' with a gable roof, built on 4"x6"runners (no permit needed as it's portable). In those years, I was a crop insurance adjuster and found that many other farmers had built similar hide outs in order to just "get away" from the financial pressures of those days. Ours will actually sleep 2 adults on the ground floor and many kids in the 2 lofts on either end. Coal oil lights, propane stove and NO radios, cell phones, cd players etc. make for a very peacefull family happening.

For us, me and my scooter buds, it began with secret hideout No.1, the big basin saloon under the desplains river bridge, and expanded from there. We're up to about secret hideout No.20 now, where wimmins...the wives and girlfriends wimmins aren't allowed, nor are cellphones or pagers. The secret to a good secret hideout is to not have it on the property. Of course, good beer, a place to park the scooters, and a boat dock to watch bikinis from as you're downing a nice cool one always helps, which of course is why its a secret hideout in the first place.
