I got to thinking, that is you guys put all this money and effort into your old tractors, how do you feel about people with them at shows? When I get one, I'm getting it running, and restoring it as I can, but if I ever take it to shows or whatever, I wouldnt have a problem with people sitting on it, or having pictures taken on it. These are tough old machines, and have withstood years of hard work, and usually, been abandoned along a fence line to be brought back to life and can probally stand a few more toddlers and such.

This is just what I think, what do you think? I know this can be a rough topic for some, and I understand that.

I go to shows for people to look and not touch. It ok only if they ask first if they can sit on it, thats not a problem. I took one to our local show about 5 yrs back that when I walked up to it to go for a spin there was a guy that I didn"t know sitting on the seat playing with the shifter and clutch. I saw his women standing there(which I knew) talking to him about it so I walked up to her and grabbed her butt. Needless to say he jumped off the tractor toward me and ask what the **ll I was doing so I asked him the same question. He said why did it matter, so I told him you play on my tractor I play with your woman He didn"t thinks so I explaned to him straight that you can look and don"t touch with out permission Just like I will with your woman. She thought that was clever the way I said that!I was 27 then and he was 35 after finding out later from his girlfriend

I enjoy taking my toys to shows but like the others have said look but dont touch unless supervised. I normally spend the nights at my shows and will take a gander down to the displays to check things out, I also make my rounds through out the day past my things just to check things out but i very rarely leave the show grounds depending on how close I am to home, 3 of my shows are within 20 minutes of the house, but if everyone was afraid to show there tractors there would be no point to have a show, just keep on eye on things and hopefully everything will be fine, also, most show grounds have security patrolling daily and nightly....Chris S. Just got back from the first show with the newly re-done (or should I say almost done) family tractor. I had to chase one gal away, who never gave a thought to drapin' her sweaty old armpits up over the top of my grill while took a phone call with one hand and dropped ashes from her ciggybutt onto my hood with the other.

Apart from that one, nobody did any touching that gave me any problem. Several folks did actually show the courtesy to ask before touching.

It's natural to be protective, and nothing wrong with it. But you can get carried away with it, too. Fellas had a cuple of tractore parked to one side of mine. Never saw him when he came in, but he was RIGHT THERE with a big "May I HELP you with something?" when I was merely pointing to something (NOT touching)on his tractor for comparison to mine for somebody with a question.

In general, looking is, of course, welcome, light touching is okay. But fiddling is not. Getting on without permission and supervision will lead to an unceremonious unseating.

I don't want anybody tinkering with my stuff. I am happy to bring it to shows so that folks can look at it.

On the other hand every time I have ever seen a child asking their Mom or Dad if they can get on and the parent says no, I've quietly said to the parent, "this one is mine, and I don't mind if they get on as long as I am here and you help them on and off". Each and every time both the parent and child have treated the tractor just fine, and there is not much more satisfying than seeing how happy a they are sitting on the tractor.

I was of the mind that I did not care if people touched my flatfender Jeep at first, but then some kid was yaking on the turn signal lever so hard that I though he was going to break it off. Now, I'd rather them just look at it but not touch it.

My scare has always been the guy who is getting on or off and falls and hurts himself and then wants to sue me because he fell off my tractor. So to me my tractor is off limits. You want to take a picture stand beside it or buy your own. Maybe that seems harsh but these days you can be sued for anything so I am not taking any chances.

If someone asked to sit on it that would be fine. If they just crawled up all on their own I would definately want them off! I also disable the ignition if I'm going to gone for a while. I feel that it will help keep honest people honest.

That was the way I thought when I took one of my tractors to a show for the first time. If people would just set on them for a picture or set in the seat to remember back to when they drove one like it that would be fine. The problem is that they turn carb settings, leave switches on, let air out of tires, pee in the gas tank, and break things. I understand that this is not a majority but it only takes one to mess up weeks of work.

my idea of someone climbing on my tractor is same as if they was to climb on my convertible. you would be dead if i saw it.... its more a respect thing its not yours & u dont craw around on things thats not yours inless you ask to sit on it maybe thats diff but also at shows your suposed to keep your kids at your side & keep them off others stuff. im sure others will agree with that
