I could make money off this, I can see this sign on every tractor in the country someday...

DANGER:

The cord right here is attached to the flywheel. And if tampered with, will trigger a high voltage wire to electrify the frame of the tractor, and everything metal on it. It is grounded right under the clutch. And again under the gear shift making driving it out impossible. If you attempt to short the wire, you risk an explosion of the tractor. Oh, right, there is a camera recording this whole bay of the garage.

I had a friend (died a few years ago) who had a Ford 8N tractor and lived on the edge of our local small town, his neighbor put in a trailer court just over the fence from him, he said he couldn't keep enough gas in the tractor overnight to start the tractor the next morning. He said he took the biggest trap he could fit under the hood (unfortunatly a small muskrat trap and would have liked to put in a bear trap), chained it tight to the tractor and set it on top of the gas cap. The next morning the hood was up, trap was sprung, and he never lost another drop of gas from the tractor again. But he said you couldn't leave anything out for an hour or it was stolen, he said they didn't steal shovels or pitchforks with broken or short handles so he cut off a good foot of the handles and they were never touched, but forget his pocket knife on a hay bale for a little while and it was gone.

This category revolving around tresspassers, thieves and other assorted idiots, does require reading up on the laws in ones state.

It's an irratating nuisance, thieves and others, you just don't have a clue what you are dealing with today, and by the time law enforcement arrives you may find yourself dead or seriously injured. Best defense is not to be there, and to get the law to handle it, but sometimes things happen too quickly.

A good friend who is approaching 20 years with the NYS police literally had a crackhead show up in his yard, in a vehicle, scoping things out, did not respond to his questions and tried to make a break for it, damaging 2 vehicles, was off hours he was on a dirtbike having some fun at the time and apparently had chased him across the county, apprehended him and they guy did close to a year for it. Can you imagine finding a clown like this in your yard, not responding to your questions, then running off damaging your vehicles right in front of you and you wear a uniform ? This was in my neighborhood, things sure have changed.

I read some excerpts from some of the state penal laws dealing with things like this and still have a difficult time interpreting what you can do legally in matters such as these. By no means would I encourage confrontation or any kind of altercation, but I've had a few people test me at times.

Rare occurances, but things do happen I've had a few here that could have been real nasty, and I'll not hesitate to deal with things harshly if cornered, came close once or twice. If it means self defense, I'll do it without any hesitation, people do think I'm a bit crazed, and that's fine, it makes em think twice about coming up on this hill, tresspassing or stealing. I have kept good repoire with the local state police in regards to these matters, I do what I can to help them, but would rely on them if at any time things had the potential to get out of control, so I don't bother em unless it's really necessary, which has not happened yet. When I worked away for years, people took advantage of it, I came home and straightened things out, made a presence here known again.

Reading material below, which does not empower one to be a vigilante, but surprising language contained within this section, I found it interesting to say the least !

NY Law states: "6. A person may, pursuant to the ensuing provisions of this article, use physical force upon another person in defense of
himself or a third person, or in defense of premises, or in order to prevent larceny of or criminal mischief to property, or inorder to
effect an arrest or prevent an escape from custody." NY Penal Law 35.10(6)>Link

Penal Law, sec. 35.30, titled "Justification; use of physical force in making an arrest or in preventing an escape", provides: NY Penal Law section 35.30(4) states: "4. A private person acting on his own account may use physical force, other than deadly physical force, upon another
person when and to the extent that he reasonably believes such tobe necessary to effect an arrest or to prevent the escape from
custody of a person whom he reasonably believes to have committed an offense [in his presence, see CPL Article 140] and who in
fact has committed such offense; and [after giving due notice of the grounds for the arrest] he may use deadly physical force for
such purpose when he reasonably believes such to be necessary to:(a) Defend himself or a third person from what he reasonably
believes to be the use or imminent use of deadly physical force."

a friend tells about neighbor had a dog that would come into their lawn every day about the same time and crap in his wife's flower bed. she got real poed about it. she put their .38 on kitchen table and saw the dog. she grabbed the .38 and headed for the door. she tripped and put a round through the door. another neighbor came to door to talk to larry and put his finger in hole. neighbor said either somebody is very short or a lucky sob. larry told him yea somebody came to door a couple of days ago and wouldn't tell sondra who was there , she picked up the .38 and fired off a couple of rounds. after that story got around everyone that came to their farm made sure sondra knew they where there and why.

On Moday, the 9th, someone chiselled the screen out of the window of my house. The window had been left cracked for ventilation while we were out of town overnight. You have to reach from the deck pretty far to reach the window and it is about 12 feet from the ground. Like I said, the screen was pulled out and the sill was pulled loose, but there was no other evidence of entry. Did look like someone had taken a nasty fall as the outside a/c unit directly below was moved an inch or so.

Guess what? The neighbor kid turned up with a broken collar bone that same night.... Said he got it wrestling. I think he got it from a extra helping of "just desserts"....

I saw this one a few years ago on one of these forums. Take some logs and some 1x8 rough cut boards, some very dark brown paint and a little yellow. then with a router carve the 1x8 with " Indiana Copperhead Refuge" or some other god awful critter that might be in your area and post them all around the place where them idiots are sneaking in and a few right out front where everyone that goes past can see them. Anybody asks, just tell them you won't let anybody kill the copperheads or moccasins or what have you on your place and leave it at that. You would be suprised how well it works! Just make the signs look simillar to DNR signs. don't totally copy DNR signs though, the state might have something to say about it.

Hate to say it seeing as how my handle tells I am from KY, but any way. Round here that would not do a bit of good. Most of the people round here who would steal a tractor would not be able to read it. They do not know a lick of english (or would have you think they don't) or sign thier name with a X. Not a big problem round here. Heck, we have not had a murder conviction in this county for over 40 years. Some real strange kill'ns but no murders. ;) Buddy and me one night did come up with a good home security deal. Have a motion sensor hooked up to a tape recorder. When something sets it off you hear a Mossberg 500 slam'n shut and a voice say'n "Da f*** you want?" I think that would work for any language.

So I spose my plan of running water into my woods, in the low area where four wheelers have been tresspassing(even running over trespassing signs), the in a few weeks after they all become addicted to it, i was gonna pump my septic tank goodies into their little mud hole. Would that be considered a booby trap or a crap trap.

He had a wire on a long screwdriver behind his seat that he`d stick in the ground when he got out and fliped the switch . I saw it work . He said it did`nt get him because of his big rubber boots .

Doug, I agree. One should be able to protect his property, but they don't look at things the same way we might. If your gaurd dog bites a thief you will be held liable for his injuries. Now what is right about that? If he trips over some of my junk in the yard, I will be held liable for his broken leg or skinned up head. Especially after I get the dog off him. It is a messed up time my friend, where criminals have more rights than folks trying to protect themselves.

In Michigan, you can shoot, or use deadly force only if you fear for your or someone'elses life. But then you better be sure you can convince 12 jurors, not of your choice. They may well try you anyway. Then even if you get off on the criminal count, there is the culpript's friends and family in civil court sewing you for shooting their dear, harmless, victimized angel, who wouldn't have hurt a flea, as he breaks into your dwelling, attacks your family, etc. Even if you get off on the criminal side, the civil side can take everything you own or ever even wished you owned. You might better turn the gun on your family or yourself, than an intruder!

If you come out of the house to find the commotion are your dogs latched onto someone, then by all means, take time to aim. Would not want to hit the dog. No need for booby traps. Just wait for the dogs to get agitated.

Her is my opinion on shooting someone. I know a guy that shot a crook in the middle of the night. The crook got free medical attention and 18 months in jail. He came back one night and killed the guy for shooting him in the leg. So my opinion is if you have to shoot a man you best kill him. I am a firm believer in the right to bear arms myself and do keep a close eye on stuff here and at my close neighbors. Kinda like a cornered dog. A wounded man will kill you if he can.

He was a bit "nuts" and hooked his car up to house current and even put a pad of some sort on the ground, to ground the guy as well. He heard a loud scream next night and got up to see someone limp away in the dark. Lucky he didnt kill the guy but it sure solved his gas problem.
