Hi Gang;
The peninsula that juts out into the sea opposite my home is called Dinas Island rises from sea level to 465 feet. Years ago it was a small island today its joined to the mainland by a marshy istmus with trees.About 600 acres in total.
Island Farm is 300 acres (rest is cliff top) It was a mixed arable farm, today run as an all grass unit building up to 1800 Llyn sheep ewes & lambs, and some cattle.
This view shows cattle on the mainland, looking over to the island with sheep grazing, contractors baling & wrapping silage, and the top field has been ploughed ready for re-sowing. The mixture will be chicory & clover (a grazing mixture used in New Zealand).
David

That's a great photo David. I really do enjoy looking at all of them. What season are you in right now? Doug N

David, what's the market for sheep in England?

Is it wool? Or is lamb very popular? Subsidies just make it worthwhile? Used for "rotation" with cows to keep the worms down?

Just curious -- certainly don't see large flocks in my neck of the planet, just hobby flocks.

wool in the u.s. is near worthless, as the textile industrys machinery hates the baler twine we use.

You live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world David. It is like a miniaturized version of the best we have in Canada. I visited it twice in my life, 30 years ago the first time and 5 years ago when I stayed 3 months and toured everywhere working on farms. I simply can not say enough good things about the beauty and the people. The farmers are the most rugged men I ever met anywhere. I would love to return some day.
