The last time I was here was 7/1. Suddenly next day Connection timed out(110) appeared & thats all I got for 5 or 6 times/day until now 7/12. This has happened once before for a few days & I know y'all were using this site. I could look back over the posts. No other site did this. This only happens on my computer; local library computer gets me right in. What could be the problem? Emptied cookies, defragged, virus ck,ad-aware regularly - made no difference.

I'm with Howard. #1 suspect is your ISP. Do an nslookup on "ytmag.com" the next time you have trouble. If nslookup fails to resolve ytmag.com, you need to complain to your ISP. If nslookup succeeds, try running a traceroute ("tracert ytmag.com). traceroute will give you a pretty good idea if the problem is with your ISP, based on the number of hops you make before it craps out.

Hey Mark -

Around here, the main problem with tracert is the two main ISP's have disabled ICMP packets, so neither pings nor tracert return anything.

I hate it because it is tougher to diagnose anything, but I guess it's safer virus/hacker wise...

HH

Did you say you could still get to most/all other websites when your PC is acting like that??

If so, can you bring up a command prompt (click start, run, and type in 'cmd'), then type 'nslookup www.antiquetractors.com' and see what it says, and also 'nslookup www.ytmag.com'.

If you don't get a valid IP address returned to you, it means your ISP is having DNS trouble.

You may also try typing '64.113.213.242' and/or '209.219.50.2' directly into Internet Explorer address bar. That would explain the exact address to your PC for ytmag or antiquetractors. If it works, further evidence your ISP is having DNS trouble.

Howard

If you are getting a timed out message you need to contact your ISP. It sounds as if your ISP is having server trouble.

Don't ask us, ask them over on the top right side of the page. They will be very interested in any adverse or unexpected problems and will try to fix ASAP if the problem has arisen due to the changes.
