Does anyone know what type oil goes in the Behlen power steering systems? I had to drain mine a while back and I filled it with hydrulic oil and now I have a few drips on the motor part on the steering shaft. Did they just use non detergent motor oil?

I really doubt one oil or the other will make the seals leak. The seals DO fail with age and wear, and need to be replaced from time to time.

There's a guy on ebay selling reprints of the book for the Behlen units, auction #260137778011.

He also mentions a parts source.

I'm not sure about your particular application, but I've always used 15W-40 in power steering pumps on big trucks without any problems at all.

Hi Bob. I suppose non detergent motor oil would work fine. My 450 has Behlen steering on it that pulls oil directly from hydraulic system and I use SAE 30 in it most the time. My steering works great.

ok I will try it. My M though runs all the steering and 3 point lift off of the PS pump any problems there? It doesn't want to steer when raising which gets interesting, but not sure why the belly pump would not be used.

Bob, not sure about that. 30 weight may be a little heavy for a PS pump, but don't know. It will work in the Behlen PS unit though for that is what goes through mine. Like I said it works off the regular hydraulic pump on my tractor. It has spoiled me, and now want it on my M's. No more than I use them anymore though I guess I will leave them alone. The C and Super C steer pretty good like they are and don't burn near the gas. I just use the 666 for the heavier work.
