Hi there,

I have a Jd400 industrial tractor. The hydraulic pump drive couple that splines to the hydraulic pump strips out the splines in the coupler after about 10-15 hrs or running. the rubber gromets in the coupler itself strip out on the engine drive shaft side. Seems like alignment is the problem but there is no adjustment for aligning the pump.
Anyone have this problem and could maybe comment.

Thank you, Curt

Got a 302 that I had to rebuild the hyd. pump 2 years ago. I dont have the service manual at home but they give tourque specs for those bolts. If not reinstalled properly it will give you problems. If I remember right they might also have had some problems with those old couplers. I know this dont help you much but that is one of the worst setups I have ever seen.
Geez, you gotta pull all that crap to change a belt?

Youre right...there is no adjustment... but maybe inspect the front piece that bolts to the front of the engine that the pump mounts to.. The piece is doweled to the block but check all 4 ? bolts to make sure none are loose and allowing the engine to "flex" slightly as compared to the front pump mount casting...If I remember correctly, there are 2 bolts visible from the top and 2 that are not too visible above the front axle...

Johnathan,
I had one missing mounting bolt and two loose ones. I thought that may be the problem and hope it is. I think it may be doing just as you say, "flexing". Thanks everyone for your replies.
