Well, guys, I was trying to press out the bearing shaft on the variator for my 110 JD. The bearings are in good shape, but they are starting to get dry, so I wanted to clean and lube them. First I have to say that JD pressing this damn thing together is BS. Well The 20ton press did a number on one of the variators half pulleys. I thought it was steel, turns out its cast iron. I have jb welded it, the pieces fit perfect, so thats good. I forgot I had some cast iron welding rod, I'd have noitched the joints and welded it up and ground it smooth. If this doesnt hold, I'll try that. Now, What I'm left with is the stupid shat is still pressed in the arm, and pressed into the bearing and hub. I have to get this thing apart so I can put this pulley half back on.

JD has the bearings and shaft as an assembly, but how the heck do you get them in if tyou cant get the old one out. The shaft and bearing is only $13, and they have 4 on hand, so I might ask to check one out see if it gives me an idea. Of course they sell the hub and bearing assembly for like $91. Anyone ever had these apart?

i have never had trouble either. The one half sheave is 44.95, and it has to be orders, so they charge another $4 for shipping.

The bearing/hub assembly is 91$. If you bought the whole thing new, you'd have probably $200 wrapped up in it.

I am currently looking for a used one. I really had no intentions on using that, but I wanted to see how strong jb weld really is (actually is not). A 3 foot drop onto concrete broke it back into 3 pieces. The biggest piece broke apart on the second drop.

guys, I'm not an idiot, I know the 2 halves unscrew from the hub. I am talking about getting the bearing shaft out of the bearings and arm.
I'm on the hunt for a new pulley halve. JD is flippin ridiculous, they want $45 for a new half of a pulley.

I kinda figured it wouldnt work. I dropped it outside on the sidealk and now its in 3 pieces instead of 4, haha... I wasnt impressed with "cold weld" steel epoxy I tried before. I guess the name brand is just as crappy as the cheap stuff.

DON"T JB WELD IT!!! It will fly apart and kill someone!! They do not press apart they are threaded.

I would try ebay for a cheap one ! I had some of those apart, but it's been awhile. Don't they unscrew the 2 halfs ????? I don't recall needing a press ! But it has been a few years too.

Maybe I'll jump over to JDparts.com and see if they show it.

JB weld works really well, no doubt, but a pulley that spins at leat 1500 RPM's IS NOT CUTTING IT.

Check ebay, i've gone through half a billion of these before.

Your Insane!! Kidding.. But I realy don't think JB weld is up to that task. If at all possiable find a used part or buy the new one. You don't want that thing blowing up and injuring a bystander or yourself.

Those are a dime a dozen on Fleabay, Your's likely won't work like it should and possably develop an appetite for expensive belts. I think I even have 1 or 2 around here somewhere. Use a bearing collar when pressing those apart.
