OT: Mercury Cougar gas mileage question

Sorry for the OT, but I can't find much info on the Internet about this.

I've had a 1997 Cougar with a 3.8 V6 in it and it has really been a super car. I cracked the oil pan on it and am debating between repairing it and just finding another Cougar.

I've found another '97 with low miles, but it has a V8.

I'm too old to care about hot-rodding around anymore - so the V8 is not a draw for me.

I've been getting 27-28 MPG consistently in my V6. Does anyone have any experience with what mileage a V8 model would get?

Thanks a lot,
Howard

Might I suggest a website. According to this the V6 gets 19 and the V8 gets 18. These are the EPA testing numbers. The numbers have been altered to better match the new testing which is more accurate to most driving.

I don't think you will get the gas mileage on the V8 as you did on the V6, but i think you will like the V8 performance. I have a 1981 XR7 Cougar
with only 53k miles. My wife's sister bought it new in 1981 and when it had 15k on it my brother-in-law told her to get rid of it since it was wore out. I bought it in 1985. It has that automatic overdrive. It has the 302 cid engine.
I call it my Mercury truck since it has a large trunk and will haul a heavy load. Hal

My brother had I believe a 95 or 96 with the v8 and it would get better than 20 on the highway. Around town, I don't remember.
