John Deere 4020 is youre best bet. It meets the requirements you have and most owners swear by the tractors. I am not AT ALL a Deere person, but these are in my favorite tractors.

What the heck do you need 60hp for?

i need at least 60hp to run generator to power farm if electricity goes out in winter. gotta keep the waterers open for the cattle, and heat in the house is a plus too. Ive been looking at a couple 4020's. id like to find a powershift they are super handy. i was using my M for the square baler and the windrows are heavy and the M wont go slow enough. So i put my 4440 on the square baler, works great but way too much tractor for running the little baler.

In general, fords are good basic tractors. The 5000 actually has a few decent features.. namely it is pretty tough and had ok trans options for speed, as well as ind. pto.

good luck with whatever you choose.

JD 3020 or 4020. The synchrorange has 8 speeds forward about like the PS, but requires the ranges be selected while stopped. Either transmission is hard to break though towing in any but the tow gear will destroy the transmissions in seconds. The PS transmission takes a lot more of the engine power than the SR transmission.

im curious what kind of speed does the syncro range have in its lowest gear. Id like a nice slow gear for running square baler. thanks for the input.

According to my 91,000 to 200999 owner's manual, the speed for both transmissions at PTO speed is 1.6 mph.

I don't remember baling with my 4020, though I may have. I've baled a few thousand bales my my MF-12 baler and MF-135. One time in good hay the boys on the rack complained about stuffing bales out faster than they could stack, so I dropped it a gear, and they were still complaining so I dropped it another gear but I don't think I got under 2 mph. Then we had a little chat about having gears and keeping the engine speed up so the baler would work right. They quit complaining. A lot depends on how many windrows you rake together for the baler. I generally was baling a single windrow and so could move at 3 or 4 mph.

If 1.6 is too fast you aren't going to get there with a PS or SR or QR transmission, you will need an IH Hydro (if you own an oil well to fuel it, its even hungrier than the gas 4020), or a newer Deere with IVT, maybe a Fendt. But you will still need the oil well to pay for either of those.
