Thanks to all for advice on getting a control cable for the hydraulic pump. I called around, and the good folks at Mark's Machine Shop in Sycamore, IL set me up with a control cable and all the hardware.

Now that I got the hydraulics working, how do I check the fluid level, and how do I add fluid? I assume it just takes regular old hydraulic fluid. I couldn't find a fill plug anywhere underneath the truck. When the dump bed was raised, I thought I saw what might be a fill port, but I wasn't about to go climbing under the raised bed.

Any suggestions? If it helps, the pump has a number cast in it--1016495D

Common place for the tank is yep under the bed and yep to fill it you have to raise the bed and then to be safe block it up. BTDT way to many times. Be sure you don't fill it full or it will leak out when you let the bed down. Depending on where it is some times you can put a hose in it and then if you have a pump for hyd fluid let the bed down and pump it in.

So I guess that fill port I saw under the bed was for the hydraulic reservoir. Just like mark-mi said, in between the frame rails.

The bed raises and lowers OK now, and it drips just a tiny bit of fluid. I'll leave the thing alone for now. If the bed stops raising, I'll worry about it then.

Should be a resevoir tank between the frame rails.Just fill it enough so that hoist raises all the way.
