You are are lucky, you guys got some more rain out that ay then we got in Garden Prairie. We are hurting bad very very very very bad. Beans look so sick, I really honeslty doubt theyll make30 bushel. Some fields got sudden death in them patches of bare dirt, really sad.

Its that black illinois dirt! I grew up in Ogle county 100 miles west of Chicago and now live in north central Ohio. What a transformation I see as I drive between the 2 places. Ohio has brown clay and it gradually gets better and blacker as I head west toward the Mississippi.

Great lookin crops!

There is some corn in central Indiana that looks like that, but most doesn't. The second half of May and most of June was extremely dry here. Some of the corn really suffered. We took a road trip to Pennsylvania and back last week. While some corn between here and there looks like yours, most is much shorter and quite uneven.

Knee high in july is for up north, where the seasons are shorter. My corn was in the groung for about a month before it just started to come up.Some is about 6" high....the year I start farming, we have one of the worst droughts in history.=(

we're in north central illinois, about 2 hrs south of chicago. been catching some decent rains, and got some good hot and humid days. supposed to be in the 90's again this week. maybe we'll get over 200 bu/acre. japanese beetles arent as bad this year, they tore heck last year on the crops. ended up making some traps with 30 gallon plastic drums, put a big dent in the population.

Glennster,
How do you make Japenese Beatle Traps? I would like to thin out the population around here.
John

i bought the scent trap kits from the farm store, then i attach them to 30 gallon plastic drums thru the fill cap on the drum. drive an iron fence post in the ground, wire the trap to the post, when the beetles get to the the trap and fall in the bag, they drop through into the drum. use a two inch pvc thread adapter on the bung and cut a hole in the bottom of the bag that comes with the trap and tape it to the fitting. i have mine set at the farthest points on the farm, fenceline corners, along the road ect. i'll get some pictures and post em for you. its a passive system, beats the heck out of spraying. milky spore is about 60.00 to treat 2 acres, would cost me a fortune to spray everything.

Looks like some good corn there! Our corn is about 3-4' tall, butwe've also got some we put in the ground over a week ago that's not up yet because it's too dry. It's only for filling the silo, but if it don't come up soon it won't be very good at all. The latest we've ever planted anything was about the 1st week of July, and it sure didn't have much cob on it when we took it off... But it did add a few wagons and we mixed it a little bit, chopping from one field then the other.

NICE TO SEE A PLACE MOED AND WELL KEPT.WE HAVE CAME A LONG WAY SENCE CULTIVATING THREE TIMES AS CORN JUST BROKE THE GROUND.A WD ALLIS LOW GEAR AT IDLE WITH FOUR ROW, SIX INCH SPACEING AND FENDERS.BUT I REMBER THE SAYING WELL AS I WATCHED THE CORN GROW. HOPING FOR HIGHER SPEEDS AT 10 YEARS OLD.

Yep, just across the fence from my house is a field of corn that looks like yours. Fully tasseled and beginning to shoot ears. At that rate of growth, it"ll probably be harvested around labor day.
