I have a Leyland 262 and need another set of remotes. It has a single high pressure threaded port that I have a pioneer on. My question is whether or not I could build a manifold and add a second remote and do the same to the return which goes into the top of the transmission housing. Thanks DJ

My Father in Law had a Nuffield Years ago, and
it had a lever for operating an external cyl. But
I think it was one way. The dealer had rigged it with a two spool valve IT HAS TO BE AN OPEN CENTER
VALVE or the tractor valve will keep kicking off.
Seems like the return line went to a spot on the
rear of the transmission. Like I said it was at least 40 years ago and My memory is not that good.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I really don't know much about hydraulics. Like the difference between open and closed centers. But I do know that I will need to operate both cylinders at the same time. If someone could explain why I couldn't plumb two supply ports out of the single threaded ports that would be a great help. Sorry for the ignorance and thanks for the help. DJ

Open center means that the hydraulic pump will pump the same amount of fluid all the time, regardless of demand. The center of the control valves are open to allow this flow. This is the most common type of pump.

Closed center means that the pump will attempt to maintain a constant pressure in the hydraulic system. When the pressure is met, oil flow will fall to zero, saving horsepower and wear on the pump. Here, the center of the control valves are closed to stop unwanted oil flow. This is much a less common design on tractors.

The pumps are designed differently and valves are not really compatable between them.

Are you trying to operate 2 cylinders at once, like on 2 sides of a loader? If this is the case, you can probably just plumb the lines together like you mentioned above.

If you are trying to use them to operate 2 cylinders independently, but at the same time (like raising a loader and tipping its bucket) you will need 2 separate controls for the cylinders.

what I'm actually doing is adding a thumb to my Long 3pt backhoe. I believe it must be an open center system due to the fact that the backhoe used to have a pto pump and I removed that and hooked it to the single remote on the tractor. The hoe actually works much better off the remote on the tractor than it ever did on the pto pump. I know the resevoir on the tractor is approx. 17 gallons. The lever to actuate the remote is held in the open position to provide power to the remote which I guess kinda answers the my question in some respect. Have I created an open center by holding that lever open? That is what the manual says to do. By the way, when that lever is open it diverts power away from the the 3pt lift arms...release the lever and the 3 pt. works if you get my drift. I really appreciate your help. Thanks DJ

Sounds like your backhoe is setup for open center. With that being the case, it should be pretty straight forward to add another open-center spool valve in line with the hydraulic lines that plug into the tractor.

Try adding one of these on the end of your existing lines. We did this with one of our tractors this spring and it works great. Basically it redirects the flow between cylinders. Difficult to use them simultanously though. I have had good luck buying from these people before. Should be able to it for around $100.

You need to get an electric hydraulic splitter valve. Do a google search for same, and see what you come up with, I think they sell for in the $2-300.00 range.
