An earlier thread on using a hydraulic top link has inspired me to get acquainted with my remotes on a Cockshutt tractor. I've never had the plastic covers off, so here goes for some basic questions. These remotes have threads. I've only seen the quick attach connectors. Will I have to remove these 1.25 inch threaded valves or do I get an add-on piece?
Both valves seem to have a shiny plunger that I assume will push out under pressure. But isn't one line OUT and the other IN , so shouldn't one plunger push IN? How do these work?
Thanks

We have one of these assemblies on our 46 Farmall M. They are neat old original equipment if you have both ends and can make them work. The other guys are right. If the practicality factor over rides nostalgia, you might sell the antique and buy a more modern system.

In fact I have been fighting ours this morning trying to disc a bunch of tumble weeds. Ours worked okay until we upgraded the old 3-400 pound Liftall to a "new" 800 pounder from a Super M. Now it wants to pop apart every time I raise or lower the disc. I just drove her in to try some .032 safety wire to hold it together. Touched up the hook engagements with a file too. Anyway, for a diagram and IPB go to the Case site, look under Farmall- M Tractor- 276 Hydraulic System, Breakaway coupling. Link The assembly is set up for standard 1/2 inch hose ftgs. As fun as it is to use original equipment, if the safety wire doesn't work, we'll be upgrading to Pioneer fittings in the future. Good luck, Don

The connecting half on the hose has a 'barb' that pushes against the tractor end and opens that end to let the oil through.

They look like the Aeroquips that were on the Farmall 300/350 and 400/450. You"d need the female ends for the implement you were using to make them work.

Unless you've got the other ends to go with 'em, you'd be better off removing those for the now industry standard Pioneer couplers. You could stick those on ebay and probably more then makeup for the cost of the conversion...

Someone out there has to be looking for a set of those just for originality's sake on their prized Cockshutt.

Out of curiosity, what model is it?
