I recently bought a ford 3000 and it started running hot not long after I had it. I checked the radiator and drained it and it looked to have oil in the water. I filled it back up with water and antifreeze and it run hot again. I drained the water again and it was black like before with the look of oil. Does anyone have an idea what this might be?

Could... but I doubt it. Gasket, most likely.

clewis,

I have a Ford 2000 gas that had a problem with overheating. I did all of the common things - flushed radiator multiple times, removed thermostat, tested for compression leaks, adjusted timing, added "cooling" additives to water, replaced radiator cap, etc. I finally pulled the radiator and took it to a radiator shop to have it "boiled" out. The guy said it was plugged too badly to fix it. I put in a new radiator and it has been absolutely perfect ever since.

Good luck with yours,

Tom in TN

Hope for it just to be left over gunk, but....

Head gasket or maybe cavitation. Either way oil & water are mixing through holes that should be seperating the 2, & major tear-down. Cavitation is more likely in a diesel.

try a pressure washer or air hose it may need the rad washed out the fins may be blocked try this first . The fan sucks a lot of crap in and this is a common problem besides it's the easiest and cheapest thing to do first
