Son came in and said he and a friend had found a rock, they where arrow head hunting. Well wife and I went out and it was a rock but a filly that was born in the last 24 hours or less. We didn't even know the mare was due to have a foal. We then spent another hour getting the mom and baby in to the stall so we could work with her. Tomorrow we get to do the imprinting on the little one. I'd post a picture but still not good at it. I'll post one in stuck and troubled in a few minutes

Re: round bale question in reply to jayinNY, 01-17-2008 15:42:53
I agree with KEH. When I had beef cattle, I had no inside storage for round bales. When I had left over bales, I would feed them the next year and the cows liked them just fine. Lower feed value, but I thought better than cornstalks, which I used, too. Cows liked hay best, cornstalks next, and soybean straw last.

Glad you had a good surprise. BTW, I posted a pic of that baler flywheel problem I posted about the other day. I did'nt have to take the flywheel all the way off, just support it and slide it out on the bushing. The pic is right above yours in Stuck and Troubled.

I went out once to bring my mare in for the night and noticed she was leaking milk. I like you did not know she was bred. She had a real nice filly colt that night. It is a surprise that you can live with.

I like the one on the 350 better, but it won't work on the 450. No holes in the housing to mount it with.

Hey old, congrats, kind of a different surprise, we have another one this year too, fine looking colt, foaled in april, was up there 2-3 weaks ago, and don't you know this little guy was already jumping those double rail fences, ones you and I would step over, he gets behind one while coming in from the pasture, and can't figure out how to go back the way he came, so he jumps over, kind of a good thing for hunters and jumpers, best keep an eye on him though, being so cocky can also be trouble.

That is one nice looking filly! My grandad used to raise matching belgians-he would breed the same mare to the same stud each year, trying to get matched pairs. Then he would train them to work, and because they were matched, they would be worth more! I remember them being quite a bit of work too! Greg
