Boy, I Dunno,

I think I just plain chose the wrong darned week to do hay. :>(

We've got 3 tenths of rain over the past two days. Wind is blowin' at 20 knots, humidty is so high ya can almost wring the water out of the air and the hay just won't dry down enough to bale. Just feels "gummy".

Raked up 45 acres this afternoon, but nothing to do now except wait on Mother Nature and her dry ways to return to "normal", I guess.

Be my luck that it will rain again tonight after I've already turned the darned stuff. :>(

Wow, Allan not only put a cab on the tractor but also a remote control. Wonder if Allan is back in the sun operating that remote.

Just picking up on your geography. You wrote: "it is a real pain in the southern hemisphere"

Where are you? ....or.... Have you moved? I thought Oz woz the only place big enough to turn around a rig like that :-).

Nice pictures as usual Allan.

Seem to remember that just the other day when you were asking for rain for your wheat that you didn't care if your hay got rained on. Maybe my old memory's gone south.

Hey, Allan i saw somewhere that a guy had made a hitch to pull his baler behind the setup you have. That would really speed things up wouldn,t it. Think it was in the farm show paper.

Allen, hay is curing here faster than I have ever seen this early in the year. We can't buy a shower. I am almost finished with hay though. I have 60 acres on the ground and another 40 to mow. Them boys have been trying to kill me the last 3 or 4 days. I never let them know it though.

Finally some decent weather, been cool at night here, few hot humid ones in between, but most days have been sunny and dry, seems odd, rain once a week, seems odd, conditions sure have been nice to get some decent hay in. Last year all the hay went to seed and turned tan before most got any in, except those with late model equipment, reducing dry time.

I like your setup!!

My only question is how do you get it thru a 16'-18' foot gate.

I would like to have a setup like that but my 10 hay feilds are all 9 or so acers with fence and 16' or 18' gates into them.

Always enjoy your pictues, just wish you didn't remove them after a few weeks/days. It sucks looking thru the archives and finding red x's

I've really got to "wiggle" to get it thru a 20' gate. Otherwise, it is break it down and hook one rake behind the other.

Since I don't have to travel over a mile and a half and since it is so flat here, I kinda just watch for any traffic and hope none comes along 'cause the thing sure takes up the roadway and there is no "backing up" if I meet someone either. :>(

In that regard, it is a real pain in the southern hemisphere, but it sure covers the real estate in a hurry when yer rakin'. :>)

If you think those cover ground in a hurry you need to try a wheel rake. I kid you not you CAN rake at 10-15 mph! We have a 10 wheel Gehl that hydraulicaly folds up to easily fit between gates and such. I think it will take an 18' swath but would have to double check. I guarantee it will out rake two sets of two roll-a-bar rakes hitched together. Will post pictures of ours in action soon as we have started on the 300 acres waiting to be knocked down.

Sure wish I could find a right hand throw rake to go with my old NH 256 dolly wheel left hand throw so I could have a set up like yours. These kinds that have these wheels that drag along the ground look to me like they'd pick up to much dirt into the hay. Seems like very right hand rake I find they want $2000-$3000 for it, and I am just to dang jewish to give that much.

Yeah,

The darned right-throws are right at twice what you'd expect to pay for a good left-throw.
