I need to rebuild a single handle Delta faucet. Will a Brass or Stainless Ball last longer where there is hard water. (This is the ball which is inside the unit... see image below.)

Brass is more expensive (and was recommended by the guys at Menards), but I trust stainless more.

Also, the sink is not used that often.

Thanks.

There are kits available with all the springs and o-rings for just a few bucks. With the wear and corrosion you might get a few years out of it. The best fix is replace the entire unit, that's what I done.

I tried one of those ss balls (very thin). Wasn't very long before stem broke off. Go with the brass.

You can put the ball in a drill and use some fine sand paper to clean it up again. Stainless would be a lot better. I have never seen this part made out of stainless steel, but have seen this made out of plastic. Stan

I also have hard water and I rebuilt mine with
stainless 5 plus years ago and still no problems.

IHC RED, I have got to the point in my life that those kinds of repairs cost as much or more than a new faucette. I have three properties and I just replaced bathroom faucettes in the farm house for $32, brand new and sparkling. It took less than 5 minutes to change them, I have flex supply lines and its like changing a garden hose. I do maintenance for a friend and recently changed a kitchen sink faucette for $27, a nice looking unit. My time and the cost of parts makes replacement viable. I have my little kit in the garage, full of fittings, washers, valves, solder, pipe dope etc and I try to leave it all right where it is stored. Lowes. Home Depot, any big box will have a faucette with a price that suits you. Delta is a good unit but Moen or Dialcet are as well...just my opinion

either will work fine. but since you have it apart, change the washers and springs,o rings around the spout, and the diverter if you have a spray. also change the flat black washer above the ball. then adjust the action with the little white peice that screws in on top of the flat black washer. also grease up the spout before you put it back on. should all come in the rebuild kit. pg
