I inherited several cast iron Champion tractor seats from my grandparents farm. They have a 731 stamped on the bottom. I need help finding more info about the company that made the seats or tractors.

It is also possible that the seat is not from a tractor but rather a horse drawn implement.Champion road graders is one possibility that comes to mind and there may have been other short line manufacturers using the Champion name.

Well, don't know if this applies...there is a Champion tractor mentioned in the Standard Catalog of Farm Tractors, in I & T's Vol I (1916-25) and in Wendel's Encyclopedia of Am'cn Farm Tractors (probably have copies in your local library). Per my notes was Champion Tractor Co, Argo, IL (historical society, newspaper there probably has info). Looks like prod of smaller units (15-30 and a 171/2-32, or maybe the same one with a bigger motor) 1918-20 or so. I would guess quite low production; no mention in the few parts catalogs I have that cover that period, but parts catalogs notoriously incomplete. Research will be complicated by production of Champion cars and trucks in same period. HTH Good luck.
