Allen, there is more of those wide open spaces. Send me a round trip ticket and I will come and help with the hay. Can't afford to drive out there.

Yep, that's why I like it.

Was out there all day long and into the night.

Saw one cattle truck moving cows to pasture at 9am. Otherwise, it is just me and the jackrabbits. :>)

What's wrong with the 686? At $3+ a gallon my gas tractors are all parked for the summer. Got lucky and got an 1.25" of rain here midweek. That April hard freeze really did a number on the older hay feilds around here. Some look like yours except they are full of dandylions. I have to get going next week on my 200 acres. Its guarenteed to start raining when I start to hay, never fails.

Yep, that's what I had originally planned on. Had the 686 all hooked up and ready to go.

But, this "dying of the alfafla" came on in a hurry and it was really cold/windy out there yesterday morning.

Was just easier to yank the loader off this Hydro 70 than it would have been to yank the duals off the 966 or road the 1066 clear the heck and gone 15 miles out there to the country. :>)

Put that 1066 on it Allan and you can mow for 2 or 3 days on a tank for less money per gallon.

Mornin' Leland,

Yep, this tractor gulps fuel like a drunken sailor likes his beer and as you know, I've been bellyachin' about it since the first day I bought it.

It's got a smaller tank than your 706, a 301 engine with a fixed adjustment on the high side fuel, pulling a 12' swather. Have to run wide open in low range to keep the swather humming just right.

Oh yeah. Did I mention it is a hydro? :>)

The only job this tractor is good for is under the loader, but it was cold outside yesterday morning and that cab did have a certain "appeal" vs the open station 686 diesel at 37 degrees and a north wind. :>)

I"ll jump in, in Allan"s defence. He did say 25 acres. Maybe you only cut 20 in a whole day. Or perhaps Allan works a proper day - not 9 "til 3 with an hour lunch! :-) Also remember he only has two gears on that ole tractor - dead slow an" stop.
Regards, RAB

IU wish it were only 20 ,the guy I worked for usually would cut 80-100 at a time .they did not mess around it was nothing to start raking about 11 or noon and by midnite have 3-4000 bales done and 80% of it in the loft . .now those seven's would eat gas running the balers but they were pretty fair on light duty , but the one with the TA seemed to love it .

Well, sitting under a palm tree at poolside with nothing but windows to lookat (oh ya a beauty pagent just ended) I would still be happier operating that tractor down the endless fields in the pic. JimN

Get over here! I need to get the rake going as well and could sure use ya. :>)

Think it might be a long night. All the neighbors are going just as hard as they can. Trying to outrun this dryout.

Gonna get a bite to eat and head back out there. Hope old "limpy" holds together for another few days. :>)

Allan,
Hey, at least it starts good in cold weather.

What kind of hay is that? Looks about the same yield as mine here. We have been dry.

It's the one old alfalfa field that I didn't get plowed up. Was worried that I would need the extra feed so I left it one more year.

The hay fields that I plowed are holding pretty darned good and will be "fair", but I wanted to get this "junk" done first before I lost it all.

Darned alfalfa will turn in on itself and evaporate right before your eyes when it gets stressed..... .....

Which this is; big time. :>)
