What happened to me yesterday is what brings me to have a cold alcholic beverage, followed by several more! I ran home from work yesterday at noon and raked up about 6 acres of beautiful grass/alfalfa mix hay, no rain and already sold-the best part. Came home at 4:00 to get started baling and when I went to the field, found that the strong winds we had all day had blow my windrows all over the d##n field. There were about 3 full windrows pushed right up tight against the fence on the north side. Spent some time baling what was still somewhat in rows, and then came back to rake what was left into windrows-wind did the same thing again. Had to have my dad run the rake literally about 5' in front of the baler, baled two full loads this way! After we finished up I was complaing about it, and my Dad who has farmed for 35+ years, smiles at me and says "Isn't farming fun"!!!! Thanks Dad!

I know the feeling. I tried out the 214T I just bought and the first five bales it just tied a simple knot and would not hold. I thought maybe the knotters had a little grease on them or something but it never got past that as the right needle got hung up in the knotter mechanism and snapped the threaded rod on the needle lift. So I got out the backup 24T and baled about seventy bales 'till I ran out of daylight. Got back to the barn and noticed a small puddle of oil under the flywheel. evidently a bolt had come loose from the gear case and was bent 90 degrees. Well you got to take the flywheel off to replace it. I got about 3 acres down and rain coming. Blues, despair and agony on me!!

You cant be too far away from me, Garden Prairie IL. Its so darn dry. Esp for this time of year, imagine in July and August. FIelds still bare enough wind blowing the dirt around enough literally, some roads you coudlnt see

Whereabouts are you in N. Illinois? Or did you get blown away and relocated? I'm in Franklin Grove, but an hour south of Rockford and 3 hours west of the city.

Strange hampers so farm operations and not others.

Drove most of I80 in Illinois boths ways and part of I 74 south of I 80. The winds were pushing my full car around most of the time and most of the trees were wrapped around it self, but the custom applicators and farmers were spray up a storm.

Hey...that"s the same battle we are fighting up here in Southern Wisconsin. D*mn is it windy as all h*ll today. Kinda made me happy I didn"t put down the four acres I have been thinking about.

But the bottom line here is that you don"t need to have hay blowing all over God"s creation to enjoy a cold beer! Though I must admit...after baling hay...nothing beats a Miller High Life!

Nothing like cutting hay with good weather in the forcast for a week. Then when it's time to bail,it cuts lose with heavy rain. Last year I had hay down and ready to bail. Then the rain started. It only got rained on one time, but, that one time lasted 6 days.

I can't agree more! Dad "retired" from farming in 1998 when I graduated college, and went to work in a machine shop. My parents kept about 50 acres, and I rent it back from them to "play farm". He and I work together almost everynight, and I wouldn't trade for the world.
