Hello,

Way Ot here, but was wondering if any one has ever used one of these double hay rakes. Looking to save some time in the hay feild. Looks like it should work good. I don't care for the hydraulic drive, but it has it's benifits too.

Thanks,

Have 2 here, just use one at a time..keep one for a backup..the new style bearing can be used on the rakes..you just need a 3/4 X 4 inch fine thread bolt..been using them for about 5 years and have not changed one yet...i mount the bearings and see how the bar fits on each end, i make sure the fit flat..i bend them till they do..when i was buying the new bearing it cost about 23 dollars from deere, now they are around 48, they are cheaper from Vermeer and the teeth are also, you can buy the cheap ones from someone else, but they bend so easy.. they are the best of the rakes for balers where you need packed sides.. any will work for wide pickups..

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

Last year we bought a JD 700 which is the same rake but with green paint and it worked pretty good. It will rake as clean as any rake I've seen and it makes nice windrows compared to a V rake but it will rope the hay like any other bar rake. I put all new bearings in the rake bars as well as wheel bearings in our's last spring which ran about a thousand bucks but it should be good to go for a very long time now.

I have used one for almost 30 years and can't say enough good things about it. The hydraulic drive saves a lot of teeth because it stops slowly when it hits an obstruction unlike a mechanical drive that has to drag the wheels to stop. Makes a perfect round bale almost every time. Easy to rake with after you get the hang of it.

The Vermeer double bar rake will be our next rake. I love the concept of controling the speed of the hay movement and not having teeth contact the ground. This type of machine should reduce the amount of dirt in your hay if you are currently using a ground drive wheel rake.
