I have a one acre pond approx. 20 feet deep at the center and full of cat fish and blue gills. Is there a chemical that will kill the cat tails, but not hurt the fish? Thanks in advance for any help you may give me.

i've heard you dont want to kill all of them in one year. if the pond is just full of them and you kill them all they rot in the water and this affects the oxygen content of the water. this could possibly kill fish. i've heard this, don't know for a fact. like the other post said you should probably check with the extension office.

My Jr. High English teacher told a story once that whe she started her car she heard a screech and a cat ran from out from the engine compartment. Got rid of that cat's tail.

Similar thing happened when my mom was starting to go into labor with one of my older brothers. Dad went to start the Monte Carlo, and when ma came out to the garage there was just white fur everywhere... I'd imagine there was a good deal of blood too, this cat didn't make it. Took a couple tails off with the milker motor though, they lay on it then I used to never check before hitting the switch. Most cats weren't very lucky.

Be careful who you ask and find out states epa rules before messing with cat tails. Environmentalist consider them part of wet lands IE swamp and will fine you for removing them. I would recommend the current armed forces don't ask don't tell policy.

Their is a glyphosate herbicide formulated with surfactants that will not harm water critters,Rodeo is the brand name. Do a google search for "Rodeo herbicide".

There are aquatic herbicides available, very expensive. Get in touch with your county extension agent, you might need a pesticide license if you decide to use a herbicide and do it yourself.
