I'm generally a humble guy but when it comes to my kids I must share this. My daughter is graduating from high school this Thursday night. She is valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She must have gotten her smarts from me cause I don't have any left. She still has some educating ahead cause she doesn't understand why we have so many tractors in our yard. BTW Friday we are heading to Houston to see our new granddaughter who was born last week.

Congrats to all with recent grads! I've always felt a little philosphic at HS graduation time. It's a major milestone in an individual's life and it's also like an explosion of sorts. You take a bunch of kids who've probably been together in the same schools, same neighborhoods, same sports teams, hung out together and then, wham, they get flung out near and far in a short period of time. Some go in the military, some to college, some go into the family business, some go into apprenticeships, some wander for a few years until they figure out what they want to be, but for all, it's a major transition. They are now adults. And looking out over the groups in their caps and gowns, I picture them all as race horses straining in the starting gate, just waiting for the bell to ring and to break out into the world on their own track, to make their own mark.

As parents, we've nurtured, spanked, lectured, chastised, encouraged, smiled, cried, groaned, etc. as we've raised them and now it's time to give "advice" instead of a lecture when they say "What should I do?" because, ultimately, it's their decision what they make of their life from here on out. Congrats again and good luck to all!

My daughter also is graduating Thursday night as valedictorian of her class. She will be attending Troy University this fall in Troy Alabama. Her older sister graduated as valedictorian of her class and is on a full ride at the Univ. of Alabama. She will be a senior this fall.Don't know where they get it from because I ain't too smart and their momma married me so she must not be too bright.

You have every right to be proud. I'd be smiling ear to ear on both accounts. Congragulations.

My son is graduating in 2 weeks. Plans on going to a local college and then becoming a air traffic controller. I just hope his girlfriend will let him make it that far.
