ok both my choppers run on a 1000 RPM PTO shaft. i have 2 tractors with 1000 RPM PTO. i was wondering if everything would run alright with a 1000 to 540 adapter so i wouldn't have to switch shafts all the time. someone told me everything would not run at the same speed and like the choppers wouldn't do as good of a job. what are your guys' opinions?
thanks

Ain't gonna work worth carp. Just outta curiosity, what tractors ya got? We run an 1855 on the chopper and it's pretty easy to switch from 540 to 1000 and back. I've heard Ford's can be a pain (6000's and such).

Depends on your tractor, if you have shiftable pto speeds, then you can use an adaptor, but, due to the high power requirement of a chopper I would not recommend it. If you want to save having to swap stub shafts in the tractor it is far better to put a 540 yoke end on the chopper shaft. If you have a tractor with shafts that you have to chage to get 540/1000 pto you will have to use the 21 spline shaft.

There is something missing in your question. Please try again?

If you have 2 tractors with 1000 pto & 2 choppers on 1000 pto, there would be no need to switch anything.....

What is it you are trying to do by using a 540 end? What would be the point? You would have to switch at least a chopper & a tractor.....

I'm not understanding.

Yes a 1000 rpm chopper I feel would have to be run at 1000 rpm or you would lose ervything - howevere - I do have a 1000 to 540 rpm converter that I click on the end of the shaft - then hook my 540 wagons on it and run the tractor very slowly to unload the 540 pto wagons - then hook back up the chopper and take the converter off....

Engine doesn't have to run very slow to obtain 540 on the 1000rpm shaft. 54% of the engine rpm where rated pto/1000 rpm occurs. E.g. 1900 rpm for rated pto so .54 X 1900 = 1026 rpm. That's more than 600-800 idle rpms.

1000 rpm pto HAS to have 1000 rpm stub shaft. It won't run the same speed, and youll be chopping very very slowly.
