PTO question

I was at TSC looking around over the weekend. I noticed that they had an adaptor that goes on a 1000rpm PTO that makes it so a 540 rpm PTO would fit the PTO. My question is what does that do to the 540 rpm equipment you would run off of the PTO? Does it tear it up or does it work just fine? Thanks for the input.

Lots of potential problems running a tractor at basically 1/2 rpms for a prolonged period. The big tractor will not be at proper operating temperature. Even though it is too big for the implement, it will be working at an rpm where it cannot efficiently build horsepower. I cannot think of an application I would run a 100 rpm pto tractor on a 540 rpm implement for any period of time. Maybe to hook onto a silo blower to make a safe work environment while leveling off the silo, etc.

As others say, it's used to put a 100 hp tractor on a 40 hp implement, run at only 1/2 throttle.

Or parts will spit out all over if you try to run the implement at 2x it's rated speed.

Well in most cases your asking for trouble big time. Think what will happen if you over rev and machine it flys apart and if the equipment is made for 540 and you run it at 1000 your asking it to fly all over the place

only used if you have a huge tractor with lots of wasted power. Would work if you needed to conserve fuel on a particular piece of equipment provided that you watch the rpms and not create an overload.

That's asking for trouble unless you're in the exceptional situation of having a machine that's not terribly sensitive to PTO speed, or can afford to run the tractor at idle to get the 540.... and not need much power. I'd leave it where it's at.... on the shelf.

slow the throttle down on it the you only run 540 through the equipment we use them on generators around here still get rpms on 1000 shaft at half throttle
