I have a 1963 MF 50. Runs good. Rusted, not great shape. Loader that doesn't work well. I am tired of messing with it and want to get something newer that my wife can drive. I am a novice and have NO IDEA how to go about pricing it, selling it, etc. Can I trade it in at a dealer? How do I figure out a fair price? There are few for sale in the newspaper around her (Virginia) so little to go on.

You're talking about one of my favorite tractors with a MF50. A loader that doesn't work is as much a liability as an asset. Zero value there. Alternator isn't original, so the generator driven tach probably doesn't work. That's an issue with some people. No charging system is an issue with most. Negative on that. Ok tires is a wash. Lift and pto work as expected, a plus.

Is it power steering by chance? Gas or diesel? Standard utility or hi-arch? (28" or 38" rear wheels?)

You have a tractor that sells good where I'm at. $4000+ in average to good condition. The negatives you mentioned drop it to $3000 to $3200 at the right time of year. (now) I've seen some advertised on YT's classifieds in other parts of the country at less than $3000 in decent shape. Not knowing your local market, anywhere from $2800 to $3200 would be a wild guess.

MF - thanks for the insight. Yes to power steering. Larger wheels on the back. I can probably get the alternator charging (it is disconnected) with some help from the Forum folks. It sounds like it would be worth some time and money to make the loader work? I can do it, just tired of dinking with it.

I bought it nearly 10 years ago (first tractor, and only) for $4200 and the loader worked then. Not sure about the alternator. It works fine for a bushhog tractor and I just through the battery charger on it a few times a year.

One more question - should I try an ebay auction or just put it in the newspaper here?

it starts and runs very well. Doesn't charge the battery as the alternator is not connected. Brakes work, tires seem ok. Loader doesn't work. I use it 4-5 times per year with a 5 foot bushhog and the PTO seems to work.

With out looking at it it is realy hard to price something , hows the tires is it all there , does everything sorta work will it start on it's owen does it charge the battery . most people looken for something old want to fix it themselfs . trading it in at a dealer he will show you ON PAPER he is giving you somuch but realy you are paying him to take it just like traden in a old car. Best to deal clean when buying . Your tractor may only be worth 1500 to 3500 . So it is like this you put the price that you feel comfortable with but do not put it to low ya can always come down but ya never can go up. One more thing ya will know if ya sold it to cheap when they don't try to beat ya down.

People must be different in your neck of the woods. Round here if you try and give something away, people will ask you to pay them to take it. However if you will just put it someplace where they think they are stealing it, no problem, it`ll be gone by morning.

Look in the photo ad section and classified section for like kind tractors and go from there.
Pricing in this site is pretty much where it should be.
