I posted here before about a clicking noise from the front of my 1997 Dodge Ram pickup. It happens when I let off the gas pedal and coast. I hear a click, click, click, etc. with a squeal sometimes until I give it gas. If I put it in 4wd, the noise goes away. I was under the truck today and rotated the front drive shaft and can here the click in the transfer case.

I had a '98 1500 4x4..The vacuum operated shifter on the front axle went bad and kept the axle shifted partially into axle lock position..It made all kinds of strange noises

Tweeter ---

Check these things ----the front "U" joint, look for a slight shiney place around the joint. this would come from the joint moving with a bad bearing.

next, jack up a front wheel, wiggle the front wheels back and fourth, top to bottom....your looking for slopp in the bearings....

check the lug nuts, be sure they are tight.....

The lug nuts are tight. Both front wheels wobble when wiggle them. The U-joints look ok.

This typically means you have a wheel loose. When the lugs are not tightened, they tend to make a click-click or a clatter upon letting off the accelerator. Hope this post is in time. Aaron
