I have a 2840 that was smoking and skipping when it first started up until it got warmed up. It was like it had to burn some extra fuel out of a cylinder. So this spring we did a in frame rebuild to it. New sleeves, bearings, head gone through by a machine shop. I had the injectors tested at the JD dealer... one was bad at low presure they said so I bought 1 new injector. We got it all back together and it does the same thing. It has a rotor diesel pump. That is the only thing I have not done. Is there a way to test the pump when it's on the tractor??? Is this something I could do myself?? We are useing the tractor now and I don't want to have to send it away to get fixed right now. I was woundering if there was a way to test the pump and if it was bad than I could get a new or rebuilt one to put on myself to minimize down time.

Does that have a primary fuel pump that pushes the fuel through the filters like the 404s have? If so,it sounds like a classic case of that being bad to me.
