There are several guys here in east central Missouri who cut hay last week. Mine is ready to go but I couldn't get started last week. NWS is calling for a chance of showers tomorrow and then clear through to Sunday after that with highs in the upper 70's and low 80's. I am gonna try to knock down two of my best fields on Thursday that will go in small squares that get sold. They should make about 2,000 bales and then I'm gonna start on rounds after that.

How bout you fella's?

An old local saying: If it rains on Monday, it will rain 3 days that week. We never cut hay the week of a rain coming on Monday.

i'm hopeing to chop 1st crop by the end of may but gotta get the planting done first. and i gotta go pick up my new (to me) IH 820 chopper and put the controler in my 4020 and put the controler from my jd in my 970 but that ain't too hard to wire into the battery.all my first crop goes in the silo so i don't have to mess around with round bales but i bale my 2nd crop and 3rd gets mixed with corn and out in the silo too
just my 2 cents

Haven't even looked at it. I'll probably hook things up on the 31st of May and start cutting hay on June 1st like I do every year.

I have all the equipment all hooked up and ready to go right now. I'm just waiting till it gets a little taller. Seems like the frost we got in April set it back just a little. I'm down at the lake of the ozarks

You know I thought those bitter cold temps we had in april would knock the heck out of mine, especially the clover. But it really grew like wildfire, I got more growth now than I did this time last year for sure.

Thats another point I always try to wait till the clover starts to go to seed if I can. That way I keep getting more clover in my field

Old age equates no TDN! I hope you are kidding. I try to get it up in timely manner for feed value. Cows don't winter good on sticks!

They don't winter too good on thin air either. I need the hay.

I've got fescue and orchard grass that is 2.5 to 3 feet tall and the clover is going like heck to. If we get any rain at all I'll get a good second cutting and maybe a light third cutting around late september.

Wow Sam, your less than 20 miles from me, I am over near the New Haven/Berger area. A lot of mine is three feet also. The orcahrd grass is really going into bloom and getting big on top so I know I better get going! I don't know why I get so excited every year but I really do enjoy it.

Oh, and by the way Sam, I got three cuttings last year, and it was pretty dry, so I don't think three cutting is out of the question. The third one isn't much but it is better than brush hogging it.
