Last evening, I noticed the house seemed to be getting warmer. Air conditioner compressor was running fine. Went to the furnace room and found water on floor and more dribbling from the furnace. I removed a cover and found that the air conditioner coils had frozen up. Never had that happen before. Have I got a problem? enlighten me please

This is going to sound silly, and by no means am I questioning your intelligence, but did the outside unit have a cover on it over winter? And did you remove when you fired it up? Just a complete shot in the dark but it happened at my grandpa's. Good luck.

Turn the fan from auto to on. Set the stat at 72F instead of 60F.

The unit is low on freon.

OR the blower wheel is dirty, Or the filter is plugged up, Or the coil is plugged, Or the belt is slipping on the blower.

Make sure airflow is unobstructed over all return air grilles and thru the air handler/furnace before calling for service. Belt driven fans can also be a problem if the belt and pulleys are worn and slipping.

All of the above are correct. The coil freezes when insufficient air passes through the coil. Also can happen when low on freon and the gas does not epand properly. Clean the whole system. Check for blockages of the return air, and check to see if the fan is running properly.. Sometimes fans start going out abd slow down. Last resort. check freon. Rule of thumb for pressure is 70-75 lbs low side 195 to 250 high side depending on outside air temp. 35 yrs experience.
