Broken belts are almost always caused by either low tension/skidding, or by a pully sticking or even freezing. Be sure pulleys and spindles spin freely. Once once starts binding it increases the load, particularly if its a back idler (i.e. the back of the belt runs on the pulley), this breaks the fibers in the belt backwards from their normal load direction.

I have one on a Super A. That belt has to be "TIGHT" or it will cause you fits.
When you think you have it tight...tighten it some more. The manual tells you to get it really tight. I tightened mine really tight and it has been trouble free for 4 years.

Replaced the belt on mine, and it slipped ended up smoking the belt, finally got one from the dealer.

1. I didn't have the twists right as already mentioned.

2. I think the factory belt is different from a standard "A" belt that you buy at the hardware.

Haven't had a problem since, and mow some pretty deep grass now and then. Bogs the tractor first.

I mowed about 3 acres yesterday with my RM-59 and John Deere M tractor, nice little combination. Check all your belt pulleys for any misalignment and or rust or corrosion, a rusty pulley will eat a belt in short order. Also make sure the belt is installed correctly per your owner's manual. If you don't have a manual, you can get one online and print it from www.woodsonline.com
You must have the correct twists and routing of the belt or it will not survive.

I have the same mower use it behind a TO-20 Fergi. I had some trouble when I first got it (used) turns out I had the wrong manual with the wrong belt lay out. It is a monster to get on properly has two? twists in it. Have had great service out of it last two years, dbl. check your belt install.

Just a few suggestions: The mower has a tensioning pulley under the cover and if the spring is broken or the pulley is rusted so it cannot move the belt will slip and have a short life. Also, I would suggest a heavy duty belt from the dealer and not an aftermarket.

Let us know how you make out
