I would like to put a leanto on the side of my 30x50 Wick built pole building. Want to keep equipment out of the weather and have a place to sticker some lumber to air dry. My ? is what are the best ways to seal to the side wall. I only want to come up about 8" on a 12" side wall. I need to seal to the corragated metal. I wish I could run flashing under the tin but without cutting 50" of metal that"s not an option. Any ideas?? Thanks

The right way is to do that, with a wall girt at the right location, cut and install sidewall flashing.

The other option is to use a rubber membrane with a lead type band on the edges. Check out Dynamic Fastener for ideas.

Good luck,

Bill

I base these views partly on the success of a comparable approach to making models generally available in cognitive modeling (Google for "ACT-R cognitive architecture" for more details.) Good luck!

I don't think you can do a good permanent job
without cutting 50 ft. Try this.

Fabral makes a good quality standing seam roof, their products were specified by NYS Office of General Services (OGS) for many state buildings like their correctional facilities. They were also very strict about field cutting, because the freshly exposed steel, would eventually rust, no finish on it where it was cut. Apparently they had a lot of roofing problems in the past, they also specified the use of W.R. Grace Ice and Water shield under the entire roof, no other materials were approved as equal, as that material had such a self healing characteristic, so there was not much worry if a fastener penetrated it. Most only use that material in valleys or other areas prone to leak, but they decided it was worth the expense to use it as a secondary means of waterproofing under the standing seam roof system.

These metal buildings are not my forte, but assume their must be a good detail that will work for this condition.

I'd call the guy who put it up he should have some good ideas of how to do it.

I've seen corrogated rubber strips that you can install over your side panels to flatten and seal the panels where you plan to install the new roof. Maybe someone knows where you can get these strips.

Sometimes the preview will substitute a double quote for a single quote. It doesn't do it all the time, however.
