On a 2001 Forf Ranger 4x4, the electronic switch will not engage the 4x4. Any suggestions or ways to fix. Thanks in advance

As has been mentioned, check the fuse, also the shifter motor on the side of the transfer case becoming gummed up is a known problem. The control module that controls the shifting is located behind the kick panel on the passengers side (mine had to be replaced under warranty). You can shift on the fly from 2wd to 4wd and back, but to go to or from 4wd LO you have to be in neutral with your foot on the brake.

Is it "shift on the fly" ? I have a full size Bronco with S.O.T.F. that has done this in the past and found a relatively simple fix for it. Do you hear the relay click when engaging the 4wd? Did you check the fuse ? If the fuse is ok and the relay clicks but the xfer case fails to engage it may be the worm gear on the end of the shift motor is hanging up.
