O/T: '84 Mercedes engine question

I took on a project of changing the engine in an '84 Mercedes 300SD(5 cyl. turbo diesel). It was partially disassembled when I got it, and I did not remove the donor engine. Problem is, I think I'm missing a couple parts. There's a steel pipe runs up around the power steering pump, and I have nothing to connect it to. Also, between the power steering pump and the valve cover there's a couple mounting holes with a clean spot around them. Looks like something was attached there, but I don't know what. Anybody have any clues? Or a pic of the engine, most particularly the left front side? I've looked on the 'net and can't find a good pic; the Chilton's book is no help either.

Thanks for your time,

Anthony

Something from the AC maybe? I've never worked on a 126 Mercedes before.
The place to check it out is okiebenz.com, then sign up for the Mercedes mailing list. Lots of good people on there.
I drive an '85 190D 110 miles a day with the help of the good people on the list.

The steel pipe mentioned above is attached at one end to what I believe is the governor housing. Sorry I don't have my camera here, or I'd post a pic of what I'm trying to solve.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Anthony, the vacuum pump is on the front of the engine, just below and to the center a little from the steering pump. It has a steel line, maybe about 3/8s, that comes up and then over the steering pump, and points back towards the brake booster, and it turns to a rubber line soon after it points back. Right between the top of the steering pump and the front of the valve cover there is a flat boss with two bolt holes about an inch and a half or so apart, this is where your cruise control unit bolts down. That is about all I can tell you from here. I am too dim to post pictures but I could E-mail you some later today, I have one with the cruise control removed so you can see the area you are talking about.

So that's the vacuum pump? Ok. The steel line has a hex fitting, as opposed to just a nipple-type end for a rubber hose. I should be looking for a rubber line with a steel end?

Thanks again!

Anthony

The first half of the line coming off the pump is steel, then a rubber line slips over it for the rest of the way to the booster. The rubber half will also have a couple small Tees for small rubber lines that go to the cruise control. Did any of my pix show up?
