I have just bought a Ford 640. It starts very easily but after about 10 minutes of running it shuts down. It will start right back up but then will immediately shut down when I start to move it. It will idle for a minute but will surge back and forth then die again! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If all the above doesn't work, you may want to check the vent in the gas cap.If it's stopped up, there will be pressure in the tank when you take the lid off and in some cases will not run. It's happened to me .

3 fuel screens to check...One inside the tank over the fuel intake, one at the output of the sediment bowl, and one at the connection to the carb. Take out the drain plug at the bottom of the float bowl...If all 3 of your screens are clean, you should get a good solid steady stream of gas coming out of there...If it stops flowing fairly quickly, your screens are clogged, or your float is sticking.

The problem could also be at the ignition switch...use a jumper to bypass it. Those switches aren't really too robust.

I think you are right in that it is a fuel problem. Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and see if you have full flow. If not then you know where to go. If you have flow then the problem is either in the float/fuel valve sticking/partially blocked or possibly the screen just inside the fuel fitting is blocked. As I recall there is a little screen inside the fuel line fitting at the carburetor but it has been a couple years since I had mine apart. Enjoy the 600. They are nice tractors.

I might add,if it has an automotive type in line after market gas filter, take it off and throw it away. They aren't made for a gravity flow system and will cause you no end of trouble.

I had an inline gas filter on 5 different Farmall's I've owned and they all ran great.
