I thought getting old would give me less problems, looks like it is adding to my problems. I signed up for medicare before my 65 th birthday like I should. I signed up for part A, and part B. Now I hear I need a insurance that medicare doesn't cover. Does any body have a preference on what company will be the best for additional insurance? Then there's prescription coverage. I just want to get on my tractor and cut weeds. Thanks for any info. Stan

I have been on Medicare for 10 years and the first couple of years I had Humana Gold HMO coverage. The hassle was tremendous. When I had a heart attack it took days to get permission to do certain procedures. For the last eight years I have had AARP Supplement administerd by United Health care and have had another heart attack, Lung problems, two hand operations, two shoulders replaced and two knees replaced, gall bladder removed, and in intensive care for poisoning, and have never had so much as a bill from anyone. All taken care of by Medicare and AARP. Could not have asked for more. Henry

Stan,
You need to look into the PFFS plans. They are what we call private fee for service plans and have taken the place of the Med Supps. Most of them here in Indiana have no premium (free). I haven't sold a supp for about 3 years now.

They are based on a fee for each service you have done, for example. Doctor office call $15.00, Specialist call $30.00 Each day in Hospital $150.00, Emerg room $50.00 and each one has a maximum amount of money you can spend in a given year.

As you can see, they may not be for everybody, but if you don't go to the doctor very often, they can save you alot of premium dollars. All the major health companies have them.
Good Luck

two different doctors at different locations i have gone to see in the last year have big signs in the waiting room and in the treatment rooms that they DO NOT accept any medicare beyond the basic coverage...such as parts A,B or whatever. i asked about this and they said it's too much hassle getting paid. too much government boondoogle. sounds about right to me. get ready for national healthcare anyway and watch it all go to He**.

Medicare covers the first 80 percent for about 90 dollars a month. Other, private, companies cover the rest 20 percent for about 200 per month. So look around and don't have a heart attack when they quote the price. You kind of have to have it for the "big ones". I'd gladly pay a lot more for medicare if they would cover it all.

There are lots of companies that handle this just look at as many as you can and then decide which would fit your own situation.

Stan;

I have medi-care A and B. AARP supplemental ins and some VA benfits.

I use the VA benefits mostly for perscription medicens. I aint ever figured it all out and probably never will.
