Hmmmm,

Darned pickup snapped a shear bolt and I haven't even got the baler out of the yard yet!

Took the chain off and gave 'er a spin. Sounds kinda "growly" and out of sorts for some reason.

Why the heck do I have the feeling that I'm about to overhaul a pickup? Maybe this thing has been setting way too long? :>(

I have been rebuilding my NH "78" all winter long. the whole pickup had to come out and be gone though from stem to stern. All I need is 4 new teeth and she is ready to start baling Hay

I haven't adjusted anything yet. Got so aggravated I just left the field to take care of chickens, then off to Wed. night bible study, then to wallyworld and then finally home. I will get my manual out in the morning and see if I can figure out how to adjust this.Appreciate the help though.

I have been fighting a 853 all day long.Sheared pickup bolt once going over terrace.Sheared main drive bolt 3 times and bent one tube. Short hay seems to be getting in between tube and roller up front and stopping it dead in its tracks.Everyting appears to be normal and in time.Started to trade this one off last year but managed to make it through(although with the drought there wasn't much to bale).Picked up some more ground this year and the wife and I both agreed today it is going.Wonder if anyone knows of any MF 1745 out there.Have a good MF dealer and his service is good and price not to bad.The 853 earned a layoff today though.

Hey Tom,

Not trying to dissuade you 'cause it sounds like you're on the trail of a new(er) baler. :>)

However, have you adjusted the clearance between the stripper roll and the main chain? Supposed to be 1/64th of an inch to keep that material away.

That's why the clearance is so darned close, to keep if from doing what you're fighting.

Just trying to help,

Allan

Hey Bud,
No worries, you`ll have new bearings in her in no time. Those pick-ups can really hog in the hay, I wonder though, if yer gonna go thru the work, can you replace the shear pin set up with a slip clutch?? Might be worth checking on. Good luck BW

I'm just looking at this old pig.

I had the pickup in the "up" position when I powered it up. Wonder if that darned wind screen fell thru the slots and jammed the pickup fingers.

It takes quite a "lock" to shear those pins. More chyperin' needed on my end. :>)

So let me see if I`ve been keepin up with this saga. You have an 855(I`m jealous), an 853(more jealous) and now your lookin at another one...
You`re probably right about the wind screen, seems pretty hard to turn a pickup without any noise. There`s always one bent tooth scraping on something.
