I have some grease zerks that won't take grease. I have seen a tool advertized that you fill with WD-40 and hit with a hammer. Does this work? Any of you guys used one before? I'm not interested in spending the $ and then still have to take things apart too. Thanks

My best solution, remove the fitting, dig or drill out as much of the old grease as you can. If it"s 1/8"NPT, Remove the end from the grease gun hose, then thread the hose into the fitting hole. Pump away. If it still wont take grease, try to move or flex the parts. next try heat, hot water, steam jenny, I even heard of a guy using a heat tape for water pipes wrapped around a joint to get it loose. Whatever, Keep the pressure on the grease gun.

I bought one and my experience with it has been about a zero. Obviously other's have been more successful with it than I was.

I brought one because I found an old disk set that had apparently been in the fields for years. I couldn't get one fitting to take grease. Filed the tube with Mystery Oil (what I had on hand) smacked the head with a hammer and they all opened up. Have since used it on many old things (wish I had zerks on my knees) and always works. Great tool.

Dennis(VA)---- I like tools. I have some zerks that won't take grease. Where did you get the tool you refer to and about what did it cost?

I vote with Sid, if it is old or equipment that has not been greased for a long time. All my "stuff" is old, like me. When I first aquired it many had the frozen zerk syndrom. Some it was just the zerk but often the grease inside solid.

I have a couple of these tools and have used grease in them with success. Other lubes might work even better. It is best to use a straight zerk rather than one with an angle.

Heat that zerk up with a small propane torch. It won't take much heat, stop when you see a little grease "worm" trying to escape from the hole, and then put your grease gun on the zerk and start pumping.

It has been my experience that often the problem is beyond the zerk itself and "busting grease through doesn't solve anything. I have put new zerks in and still not take grease. Take apart if necessary and fix the problem.
