I had something happen yesterday that sure would renew a persons faith in God. I had a calf, for all intent and purposes come back from the dead. Darned cow monkeyed around for almost two hours,up and down after she broke water before I saw that the feet were upside down and the calf was backwards. Took some time to get her in the corral and the chute, pulled it,it had a heart beat, but wouldn't breath. We hung it up by the hind legs from the loader, kept slapping it around, dropped it a few times, finally got some shallow breathing after about two minutes. Let the cow out of the chute, she wouldn't go near it. I figured she knew something I didn't,but I wouldn't let her out of the corral until the calf stopped breathing. He just layed there, glassy eyed, tongue hanging out. She finally after about twenty minutes started licking it. Hour or so later,he layed upright, the wife said he was standing when she got the mail two hours later. This morning,he's up,sucking the cow, following her all over. Miracles still happen!

Always a joy to see the difficult ones recover. Ever try sticking a straw in the nostril of a slow one? Wakes them up right now, if anything will. I guess it would work for me too! Miracle of birth is something that too many never experience.

We tried everything with him, slapped his nose, stuck my finger in his eye, nose, rectum, hung him up by the hind legs from the loader, dropped him a few times,he was for all intent and purposes dead. I've never,in 52 years seen one come back from being that far gone.

none of my cows will calve until end of july.
due to breeding getting messed up. it really grinds on me to see other peoples calves but none here. then they will be spread out until dec. what a mess! i wanted all of them done between april 15 and may 15. we love watching those new calves charge around with their tails up and the cows just stand there and watch em while chewing their cuds.

Bugger ain't it. When we put this herd together,we bought several small herds. They were spread out from Feb to September. Started March 30 this year,as of this morning we've had 41,there are 35 to go. This time last year we'd had 25,so we're making progress at getting them backed up and grouped up. I've got one here,4th calf, had her first in August, she's backed up to mid April now. Can be done.

I agree with you all! It is SOOOO amazing what God's creatures, including ourselves, are capable of. They are such a joy to watch.

I still marvel about the span of three weeks. Eggs collected and placed in the incubator turned into clever little living creatures instead of breakfast. They see, hear, move & think. Actions that no machine has ever accomplished no matter how long mankind has worked on the project. In six months time these creatures can repeat the process and make more. Evolution? Oh give me a break. It's a grand design by the Almighty.

Agreed. I'm too skeptical to believe such complex processes are the result of some big-bang-subsequent "accidents" and chance.

Yep, one of life"s many miracles! Sad to say, big percentage of folks never get to experience such a wonderful event, or when they do, they don"t recognize it!
